Ryan Tannehill has "without question" generated the most buzz of any quarterback this offseason, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen appearing on the NFL32 program on Tuesday, as noted by Rotoworld. Mortensen said that Tannehill's receivers have been praising his improvement in downhill accuracy and getting rid of the ball in a timely fashion.
Tannehill had a decent, but not great, rookie season. He threw for 3,294 yards and 12 touchdowns, but had 13 interceptions and a completion percentage of just 58.3. Many of those interceptions came after Tannehill hesitated and eventually had to simply launch the ball downfield to get away from the pressure.
It will be interesting to see if Tannehill has improved in this area. He needs to be decisive and accurate, two of the biggest marks needed for any franchise quarterback. Of course, the Dolphins are doing what they can to make life easier for Tannehill in his sophomore season. The team signed free agent wide receiver Mike Wallace to a big contract this offseason.
They also drafted tight end Dion Sims and signed Dustin Keller. Miami spent big this offseason, and assuming Brian Hartline doesn't regress after finding his stride, the Dolphins could certainly be in line for sustained success over the next couple seasons. However, all of that depends on Tannehill. The team has been searching for their franchise quarterback for some time, and it would hurt big time if Tannehill doesn't improve season to season.
