Nebraska has canceled its 2016 game against Northern Illinois at Chicago's Soldier Field, the school announced Thursday.
The schools announced the neutral-site game in December, but with the Big Ten moving to a nine-game conference schedule in 2016, the Cornhuskers needed to cancel the non-conference contest. However, the schools agreed on two more games at Lincoln's Memorial Stadium in 2021 and 2023. The Huskers and Huskies will also face off at Memorial Stadium in 2017 and 2019.
Nebraska's 2016 schedule is no walk in the park. In addition to nine games against Big Ten competition, the Huskers face Fresno State, Tennessee and Wyoming in non-conference action. Although, the three OOC games will be played in Lincoln.
In addition to altering the series with Northern Illinois, Nebraska also announced on Thursday a home-and-home series with Cincinnati.
