The St. Louis Cardinals placed outfielder Matt Holliday on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday with a hamstring strain, according to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal. The team will promote Brock Peterson from Triple-A Memphis in a corresponding move.

For more on the Cardinals, head over toViva El Birdos.

Holliday left the Cardinals' game against the Chicago Cubs on July 11 in the fourth inning after clutching his right leg while running out a grounder. He has not appeared in a game since suffering the injury.

The 33-year-old slugger was left off the All-Star squad for the first time since 2009 after hitting .268/.351/.448 with 13 home runs. That's good for a 122 OPS+, but is a significant drop from the production that Holliday usually provides. He has also grounded into a league-leading 22 double plays in 83 games, nearly surpassing his previous career-high of 23.

Holliday played in at least 155 games in five out of the last seven seasons, but won't reach that total in 2013. The 10-year big-league veteran is a lifetime .310/.385/.531 hitter with 242 career home runs.

Peterson, 29, will get his first taste of big-league action after spending 11 seasons in the minor leagues. Peterson has posted a .306/.382/.564 line with 22 home runs in 390 plate appearances for Memphis.
