Whoa. I suggested that Hoffenheim could be ripe for an upset, but that sure didn't happen. They put nine goals past Aumund-Vegesack. Remarkably, the first half ended scoreless. The amateurs put in a great performance but were overwhelmed by the professionals. Hoffenheim put all nine goals past Aumund-Vegesack goalkeeper Maik Meyer-Wersinger in the final 40 minutes. Your goalscorers were Roberto Firmino (2), Anthony Modeste (2), David Abraham, Sven Schipplock (2), and Kai Herdling (2).

Kaiserslautern put a 7-0 beating on 6th division side Neckarsulmer SU. They withstood the FCK onslaught for almost half an hour before a penalty would be their undoing. Mohamadou Idrissou converted the penalty, and Marcel Gaus would add another goal before the end of the half. Being down only 2-0 at the half wasn't the worst thing to happen to Neckarsulmer, that was the second half. The floodgates opened, and FCK put five on the board. Karim Matmour scored just after the break, and Gaus grabbed as second in the 66th minute. Canadian Olivier Occean grabbed a brace in the 76th and 77th minute. Idrissou grabbed his second goal and made it 7-0 in the 84th minute.

SV Lippstadt 08 1 - 6 Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen jumped out to an early 1-0 in the 5th minute thanks to Lars Bender, but Lippstadt quickly responded a minute later through Benjamin Kolodzig to level the score. However, Leverkusen added two more before the end of the half to make it 3-1. Sidney Sam and Stefan Kießling were the goalscorers. The second half was much more of the same with Heung-Min Son, Sam, and Kießling scoring in the second half to put the match to bed.

SC Fortuna Köln 1 - 2 FSV Mainz

Mainz overcame an early goal from Fortuna Köln to advance to the second round of the DFB Pokal. Thomas Kraus knocked in a loose ball in the 6th minute to give Köln an early surprise lead. Nicolai Müller leveled the score back at one in the 14th minute. The match was stalemate between the two for most of the remainder of the match. Aalen struggled for majority of the match, but still managed a 2-0 victory over Rosenheim.

SV Eintracht Trier 05 0 - 2 FC Köln

Köln controlled the match from the start and ended the match with 68% possession. The first real chance of the match actually fell to the foot of Trier's Sylvano Comvalius, but Timo Horn was there to deny him. At the half hour mark, Köln's Marcel Risse saw his powerful free kick saved. The remainder of the first half saw Köln in control, but unable to properly convert their chances. They came out stronger to start the second half, and Anthony Ujah nearly immediately drew a penalty. Risse converted to give Köln the 1-0 lead. Trier began to press forward but were unable to really threaten. Köln made it 2-0 in the 87th minute with an indirect free kick from Maximilian Thiel and move on to the next round.

Karlsruher SC 1 - 3 VfL Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg came out of the gate strong and put the Karlsruher defense under pressure early. This all paid off quickly with Ivan Perisic putting the Bundesliga side on top after 14 minutes. Karlsruher battled back and had two good chances as the continued in the first half. Dominic Peitz saw his shot off the line, and Ilijan Micanski sent his shot over the crossbar. Both sides played out the half without really forcing the other into decisive action. Gaetan Krebs should've grabbed the equalizer in the 60th minute, but his shot was saved by Diego Benaglio. Of course, Karlsruher were punished for the failure to score. Diego made it 2-0 just ten minutes later. Karlsruher though they were right back in the game in the 90th minute after Selcuk Alibaz finally put them on the scoresheet. The hope wouldn't last very long as Macel Shepherd scored minutes later in stoppage time to give Wolfsburg the 3-1 victory.
