Players and fantasy football owners alike have good reason to be fearful of New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin's doghouse, and one player may have found himself close to falling out of favor after Saturday's preseason game.
Andre Brown, who is expected to share backfield duties with second-year speedster David Wilson, couldn't handle a pitch from quarterback David Carr early in the second quarter. He was consoled on the sidelines by Wilson, who had all eyes on him last season after fumbling in the team's opener versus Dallas in 2012. Wilson barely saw any playing time afterward despite being a first-round pick, and he didn't eclipse 20 snaps in a game until 13 weeks later.
Fantasy Spin: Per his postgame comments, Coughlin was clearly upset by Brown's error, though it's telling that he did not bench Brown on the spot like he did with Wilson a season ago. One of the big differences is that this occurred during a preseason game, and Brown may not have been so lucky in a situation where the end result mattered in the standings. There's no reason to assume Wilson's won the starting back duties because of one mistake by Brown, but it just goes to show how unstable the Giants backfield situation truly is.
