Manchester United expected to complete Marouane Fellaini move

Manchester United have been linked to Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini throughout the transfer window, but have been unable to lock him up thus far. Everton rejected a double bid for Fellaini and left back Leighton Baines last week and were said to still be resisting a move up until the last minute, but it looks like something may have changed.

According to Phil McNulty of the BBC, talks between United and Everton are still going and the deal could get done before the transfer deadline. McNulty dropped the news on the BBC's transfer deadline day liveblog:

"I'm told talks between Everton and Manchester United are progressing and this deal should now be concluded successfully before the deadline, as most of us have expected. It is understood Fellaini has been given permission to delay linking up with the Belgium squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Scotland and Croatia to enable him to complete the transfer - once it's all been agreed of course."

Manchester United's center of midfield is extremely thin and would be seriously boosted by a Fellaini signing. Tom Cleverley and Michael Carrick are a competent starting pair, but hardly Champions League-winning quality, and the depth behind them isn't great. Frankly, United could do with another midfield signing in addition to Fellaini on deadline day.
