Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III will play against the Eagles in Week 1.
He is going to accomplish his goal of playing this week with catchy objectives such as "All in for Week 1" and "Operation Patience" along the way. His rehab has been under a microscope and there have been big stories all year. Among other things, we have seen him doing jumping jacks at pep rallies, and receiving a $10,000 fine for not wearing the proper NFL-licensed apparel on the sidelines.
Griffin's rookie season was certainly not a joke. His 815 rushing yards helped the Skins lead the NFL in rushing and he was also the league leader in yards per attempt at 8.14. He posted a total of 27 touchdowns to lead the Skins to a 2012 NFC East title.
Fantasy impact: The Skins have insinuated that RG3 will be more of a pass-first QB to dampen the injury risk. That's something that he didn't do much of in 2012, ranking 25th in the NFL in passing attempts. His fantasy value was directly tied to the rushing numbers, but he's been very effective in throwing the ball with his 102.4 passer rating. If he can exchange his rushing numbers for a few 300-yard games -- something he did just three times in 2012 -- there should be much of a dropoff in value.
Looking at tonight, he should have a strong outing against the Eagles. Philly changed its scheme to a 3-4 and they did not look good in that set this preseason. Running back Alfred Morris could serve as more of a safety valve on slip screens and Pierre Garcon's route-running ability projects to make him RG3's go-to guy. Even if his rushing numbers drop, fantasy owners should view him as a must-start every week.
