Detroit Lions running back Reggie Bush has yet to be cleared by doctors to return to action after suffering a knee injury last week, but is "optimistic" that he will be able to take the field Sunday against the Washington Redskinsaccording to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.

Bush spoke to WXYT-FM 97.1 on Wednesday morning, where he stated that he didn't expect the injury to keep him sidelined very long.

"I feel a lot better than I thought I was going to be feeling at this point in time. My knee feels pretty good. It's a day-to-day thing right now. Thankfully, I avoided anything serious that might have required surgery or being out for a long period of time."

Bush took a helmet to the knee during the second quarter of last week's 25-21 loss to Arizona, sidelining him for the remainder of the game.

The eighth-year pro, who spent the last two seasons in Miami before signing with Detroit over the offseason, missed practice on Wednesday. If he is unable to suit up on Sunday, the Dolphins will likely use a revolving door of Joique Bell, Theo Riddick and Mikel Leshoure.

The speedy halfback has been impressive so far in his short time in Detroit. In a Week 1 win over the Vikings, Bush showcased the versatile skill set that made him the No. 2 overall pick of the 2006 NFL Draft, piling up 191 yards from scrimmage and catching a touchdown pass.
