New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman - tied for the NFL lead in receptions through two weeks - could see a healthy dose of Darrelle Revis Sunday when New England faces the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Edelman has 20 catches through two games, tied with Houston Texans receiver Andre Johnson, and has been far and away the most reliable pass-catcher on the Patriots with Danny Amendola and Rob Gronkowski injured. The Boston Herald speculated LINK TO IT Thursday that this will leave Edelman as Revis' focus.
Fantasy impact: The New England pass game is as big a mess right now as it has been in years. Gronkowski, who earlier in the week was called a 50/50 shot to play, now is considered unlikely to play. Amendola won't be playing Sunday, either. Rookies Aaron Dobson and Kenbrell Thompkins had a few catches a week ago (including a touchdown for Dobson), but also had a handful of drops and a handful of Tom Brady beratings. Rookie tight end Zach Sudfeld was not even involved in the team's offense in Week 1 before missing the Jets game, and, though he appears to be healthy now, it's hard to imagine he does anything extreme.
That leaves Edelman, which might well be the conclusion the Buccaneers come to, as well. This could ding Edelman's value, though his slot abilities and back-and-forth nature could pose more of a problem for the just-back-from-ACL-injury Revis than a straight-line receiver might be.
Regardless, the Colts' best offensive weapon Sunday might be Stevan Ridley, as the rest of the options could easily be either covered (Edelman) or unreliable (everyone else).
