After reaching bowl eligibility for the first time in 14 years, UNLV rewards its head coach with an extension.

UNLV and head coach Bobby Hauck have agreed to a three-year contract extension that will keep the coach at the school through the 2016 season, the school announced Wednesday. Details of the contract are not yet known.

Hauck's Rebels are 6-5 -- the first time since 2000 that UNLV has been bowl eligible. The team will likely play in its fourth-ever bowl game in December, and is a massive change from Hauck's first three seasons with the Rebels -- all two-win efforts.

It's an impressive turnaround for Hauck, who entered the season as one of college football's most embattled coaches. His career record with UNLV now stands at 12-37, with an 8-21 conference record. In his previous position, at Montana, he led the Grizzlies to seven conference championships in seven seasons, including three appearances in the FCS Championship Game.

After two straight losses to open the season, UNLV rattled off four wins in a row, and have feasted on the bottom of the Mountain West. All four of their conference wins come against teams with losing records.
