The 49ers and Rams played some sloppy, hard-hitting football on Sunday, resulting in the first tie game in the NFL since 2008.

The San Francisco 49ers are gunning for their third straight victory over a division opponent as they host the St. Louis Rams on Sunday.

The 49ers are coming off of a bye week in Week 9. After losing to the New York Giants at home, 26-3, in Week 6, the 49ers rattled off two consecutive wins against divisional opponents. They took down the Seattle Seahawks, 13-6, and the Arizona Cardinals, 24-3. Quarterback Alex Smith was nearly perfect his last time on the field, throwing 18 for 19 for 232 yards and three touchdowns en route to being named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career.

The Rams meanwhile are mired in a three-game losing streak. However, St. Louis is undefeated against divisional foes, with wins over Seahawks in Week 4 and the Cardinals in Week 5. Since those two wins, the Rams have faltered, losing to the Dolphins on the road and the Packers and Patriots at home. They are still searching for their first road win of the year. For the Rams to get that win this week, they'll need to beat one of the better defensive teams in the league.
