
Western Michigan earned the automatic NCAA Tournament bid from the Mid-American Conference by hammering Toledo.
Western Michigan clinched a berth in the NCAA Tournament, rolling past Toledo 98-77 to win the MAC Tournament. David Brown had a game-high 32 for the Broncos, hitting five threes on the day.
Two other Western Michigan players had 20 or more points, with Tucker Haymond dropping 21 and Shayne Whittington 20. The Broncos shot nearly 56 percent from the field, compared to 40 percent for Toledo. Michigan also out-rebounded Toledo 47-27, a huge advantage on the glass.
The Rockets had a pair of 20-point scorers of their own, with Rian Pearson and Julius Brown sharing the team lead with 22 apiece in the loss.
Western Michigan reached the Big Dance for the fourth time in its history. The last time was 2004, and in 1998 the Broncos took out Clemson in the first round.
The MAC has had a recent run of success in March Madness, with Ohio reaching the Sweet Sixteen two years ago.
