Pau Gasol's vertigo returns, won't play as Lakers face Kings

Los Angeles Lakers big man Pau Gasol had just returned from a four-game absence due to vertigo, but he'll sit out against Sacramento.

After missing four games last week because of vertigo that led to his hospitalization, Lakers forward Pau Gasol returned Tuesday night and played 28 minutes against the Portland Trail Blazers. But he won't play Wednesday against the Sacramento Kings after a recurrence of vertigo that has kept him from leaving his hotel room, according to the Los Angeles Daily news' Mark Medina.

Gasol scored nine points while adding seven assists and two blocks on Tuesday night, when Los Angeles coach Mike D'Antoni tried out a rare pairing of Gasol and center Chris Kaman. Kaman was coming off a 28-point, 17-rebound performance against the Phoenix Suns on Sunday, but he and Gasol struggled together. The night ended in a 124-112 loss to the Trail Blazers despite 40 bench points from guard Nick Young.

Kaman and Gasol have openly criticized D'Antoni's affinity for small-ball this year, and just as they got a game to test out a dual big man lineup, both could miss the Wednesday night game against the Kings. Kaman is a game-time decision because of a right calf strain.

Medina reports that Jordan Hill, Robert Sacre and Ryan Kelly could make up the starting frontcourt for the Lakers.
