The 49ers linebacker was detained by airport security and eventually arrested after reportedly stating he had a bomb.
San Francisco linebacker Aldon Smith was arrested in Los Angeles on Sunday following an incident at the Los Angeles International Airport. According to reports, Smith became uncooperative with airport police and was taken into custody after stating that he had a bomb. Smith was officially booked for making a false report of a bomb threat, according to Cam Inman of the Mercury News.
According to eyewitness reports, the incident began while Smith was at a Southwest Airlines ticket counter and continued on the other side of security, with Smith ultimately being taken into custody near a gate. Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee has more details on the alleged incident:

According to a witness, trouble began brewing earlier at the Southwest Airlines ticket counter. Following an argument there, a ticket agent said that Smith would not be allowed on the plane. After going through security, the witness said Smith was approached by TSA personnel. He advanced toward his gate where he was taken into custody by five officers. A video of the incident shows an officer bringing a police dog into the vicinity of the gate as Smith is being led away in handcuffs.
Smith has had multiple legal issues since being drafted out of Missouri in 2011. He was previously arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and is currently facing multiple felony counts for possessing illegal assault rifles related to a separate incident. The charge of false report of of bomb carries a maximum sentence of a year in county jail. David Fucillo of Niners Nation has full details of the charge:
False report of a bomb threat falls under Section 148.1 of the California penal code. Here's the full rundown of that section. Subsection a covers the issue in question, as it includes employees of an airport. The most important information is that it carries with it a sentence of up to one year in county jail. That's the maximum sentence, and obviously it's way to soon to say how this will resolve itself in the court system:
148.1. (a) Any person who reports to any peace officer listed in Section 830.1 or 830.2, or subdivision (a) of Section 830.33, employee of a fire department or fire service, district attorney, newspaper, radio station, television station, deputy district attorney, employees of the Department of Justice, employees of an airline, employees of an airport, employees of a railroad or busline, an employee of a telephone company, occupants of a building or a news reporter in the employ of a newspaper or radio or television station, that a bomb or other explosive has been or will be placed or secreted in any public or private place, knowing that the report is false, is guilty of a crime punishable by imprisonment in a county jail not to exceed one year, or pursuant to subdivision (h) of Section 1170.
