Good morning everyone. I'm settling into my seat in the press box for today's KC Chiefs and Carolina Panthers game.
Today is obviously not just any day. After the tragedy involving Jovan Belcher and Kasandra Perkins, this is a very different day.
Fans appear to be trying to make this a normal day. The somber feeling wasn't overly noticeable, but the feeling that something is different was there.
I talked to about seven different groups of Chiefs fans on my way in. Most of them already had tickets and planned on being here. One group bought tickets last night and drove in from Wichita. Several said some variance of, "I felt like I just had to be here."
The tailgating scene is still alive as fans tried to make this a normal day. The Chiefs buses and grills are out there but there's a different vibe in the parking lot.
Romeo Crennel is on the field before the game. He hugged Panthers coach Ron Rivera at midfield. Panthers QB Derek Anderson came over and did the same. The two were in Cleveland together. GM Scott Pioli is also on the field, talking to various players. Fans cheered as Pioli came into the stadium earlier.
This is a weird day. I can't imagine what the players are feeling.
