The final round of the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow is set for Sunday. Phil Mickelson used a strong Friday to take the lead heading into the weekend, but lost a solid opportunity to strengthen his position in Round 3 on Saturday, and is now tied for first with Nick Watney.
Mickelson shot 1-over on the day for a 73, much worse than the 67 he shot in Round 2. Watney shot 1-under on the day to grab the first-place tie at 8-under, while George McNeill rounds out the top three as the sole player at 7-under.
Many of the top names have fallen in the standings, as Rory McIlroy had another bad day at 1-over and is now tied for 10th place at 5-under for the tournament. Mickelson risked falling out of the top spot late with three bogeys and a double bogey to round out his day.
Due to the potential for bad weather, all tee times have moved up considerably, and the plan is for players to tee off in threesomes from No. 1 and No. 10, beginning at 6:45 a.m. ET. Television coverage begins at the same time, however, with the Golf Channel picking things up at 1 p.m. through 2:30 p.m. and CBS picking up the rest of the day from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
