Game three of the series between the Vancouver Canucks and the San Jose Sharks moves to California with the Sharks having stolen two wins on Vancouver ice. The Sharks were one of the best home teams in the NHL during the regular season, and were looking to continue that success in the playoffs.

Power plays were a major story in the first period, as both teams had a number of scoring chances on the man advantage. Patrick Marleau took an early penalty when he caught Ryan Kesler with a high stick on this collision:

Joe Pavelski would open the scoring with this five-on-three powerplay goal, assisted by Joe Thornton and Logan Couture:

That would be the only goal of the opening 20 minutes. The Canucks held the advantage in shots 14-13 at the end of the period.
