The NFL is a quarterback-driven league, but it was a trio of pass rushers making news on Monday, John Abraham, Brian Orakpo and Dion Jordan were all in the headlines on Monday as the NFL offseason continues. They weren't, however, the only NFL players making news. Between contract extensions, free agent tryouts and off the field incidents, there was a lot going on.
Abraham has yet to find a team after being released by Atlanta, but reports on Monday indicated he may be close to finding a new home. While nothing is imminent, the Tennessee Titans are reportedly considering signing the 35-year-old defensive end. Tennessee is also reported to have interest in Dwight Freeney. If he could only pick one, Jimmy Morris of Music City Miracles said he would go with Abraham.
While Abraham is still looking for a team, Orakpo is ready to rejoin his. Orakpo missed 14 games last season due to his second torn pectoral injury. He's fully recovered now and expects to participate in Washinton's OTAs later this month. This is a big season for Orakpo as he enters the final season of his rookie contract. Orakpo said he wants to be a Redskin for life, but as Dan Ciarrocchi of Hogs Haven wrote, his health will go a long way in determining whether or not the Redskins extend him.
Jordan may one day join Abraham and Orakpo as a dominant NFL pass rusher, but the Dolphins are planning on bringing the No. 3 pick along slowly. Miami won't rush Jordan onto the field until he is ready, a benefit it has thanks to some depth at defensive end. Kevin Nogle of the Phinsider has a complete breakdown of the Dolphins depth chart and, which lists Jordan among the second-string defensive ends. Cameron Wake is entrenched at one starting spot with Jordan currently penciled behind Jared Odrick at the other defensive end spot.
The Dolphins spent much of the offseason in trade talks for Kansas City's Branden Albert, but with the Dolphins no longer an option, Kansas City and Albert could begin working on a contract extension. Kansas City shopped Albert for much of the offseason, but were unable to find a deal. He's now likely to return to the Chiefs for at least next season with both teams having a desire to work out a long-term deal. An Instagram message led some to believe a deal may be done, but that is not yet the case. Until a deal happens, the possibility of a trade remains with Matt Verderame of Arrowhead Pride listing theArizona Cardinals, Detroit Lions and San Diego Chargers as possible trade partners.
Not all of Monday's NFL news was focused on the field as Cleveland Browns seventh-round pick Armonty Bryant was arrested for DUI. Edwards was pulled over by police in Ada, Okla. and he reportedly blew a 0.098, or 0.018 above the legal limit. This isn't Bryant's first run in with police; he was also arrested during college.
While Bryant attempts to hold onto his NFL career, Aaron Curry is working to get back into the league. A former top-five pick, Curry has been out of the league since November. Curry will work out with the New York Giants and as Ed Valentine of Big Blue View noted, bringing Curry in is a low risk move for New York. He's battled knee injuries during his career, but if healthy, Curry could potentially add to the thin Giants' linebacker corps.
