The was only one game in the Stanley Cup playoffs on Friday night, and it was a mere formality as the Pittsburgh Penguins eliminated the Ottawa Senators with a 6-2 win in Game 5.

Just like Sens captain Daniel Alfredsson said they would.

Asked after Game 4 if the Sens could come back, Alfredsson made waves by saying "probably not." As you'll see from the GIF highlights, he knew what he was talking about.

The Penguins controlled the first period, though they only scored one goal in the opening 20 minutes. That goal was indicative of how the night would go for the Sens though. Right off Brenden Morrow's skate:

The second goal was even tougher to swallow, as the puck clung to Craig Anderson's left skate before popping free for James Neal (who had a hat trick):

The rout was on when Kris Letang shot past Anderson's glove:

The Sens at least avoided a shutout when Milan Michalek scored to make it 3-1:

But Evgeni Malkin scored on a breakaway to make it 4-1 before the end of the second period.

With the score already out of hand in the third period, a frustrated Chris Neil slashed Douglas Murray in a very sensitive spot:

The referees announced that this maneuver is against the rules.

Neil disagreed:

The Sens were done. A few more meaningless goals were exchanged, and each team stopped paying attention to basic details, such as putting one foot before the other:

All that remained was the handshakes:
