Celta Vigo made a managerial change on Saturday, firing Abel Resino and hiring Luis Enrique after the former spent just over three months in charge of the club.

Enrique was considered one of the best up and coming managers in world football when he moved from Barcelona B to AS Roma in 2011. The now 43-year-old was expected to lead a long-term revolution in the style of play at the Italian club, but left the club via mutual consent at the conclusion of his only season in charge, with Roma failing to qualify for European competition. After taking a year off of management, he will return to coaching for the 2013-14 La Liga season.

Resino replaced Paco Herrera, who had been in charge at Celta since the 2010 season. Herrera got Celta promoted to La Liga, but did not appear to have them on the path to survival when he was let go in February. Resino did enough to keep Celta in the league, but only just barely. They finished one point above the drop on 37 points, which would have seen them comfortably relegated in La Liga's last two seasons.

Enrique will face the tough task of building a side that can stay up without Celta's best player from the past two seasons. Star forward Iago Aspas is expected to sign with Liverpool shortly and goalkeeper Javi Varas, who was on loan from Sevilla, might not return.
